Margaret (Peggy) McBride leads Vasquez & Company's government practice and oversees the firm's delivery of services to government clients. She joined the firm in 2009 and is based in San Diego, Calif.

Her expertise includes organizational analysis, business process re-engineering, cost accounting, performance auditing and financial accounting, and financial and compliance auditing services primarily for governmental clients, such as municipal, state and federal entities; utilities (water, electric, sanitation); educational entities (K-12, community colleges and universities); and nonprofit health, welfare and arts organizations.

Her clients include AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Metropolitan Water District, Imperial Irrigation District, Los Angeles Community College District, Municipal Water District of Orange County and Encina Wastewater Authority, as well as the cities of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Montebello, Moreno Valley, Simi Valley and Vernon.

Prior to joining Vasquez & Company, Peggy enjoyed a 27-year career at KMPG where she was partner in charge of Western Region government advisory services. She is a former assistant finance director for the city of Columbia, Mo.

Her earlier client portfolio includes California State University System; University of California (Riverside and San Diego); the cities of Anaheim, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Phoenix, San Diego and Tucson; and Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Santa Barbara counties. She also has served the Community Foundation of San Diego, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy.

Peggy is a noted authority on the topics of risk assessment, cash management, performance budgeting, internal controls, governmental accounting, Total Quality Management, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, fixed-asset systems and GASB requirements, and the Single Audit Act/Uniform Guidance. She has addressed or served as an instructor for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Governmental Accountants, California Municipal Finance Officers Association, California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors.

A Certified Public Accountant and Certified Government Financial Manager, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Peggy has served on the boards of directors of the American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties chapter, Coast Community College District, New Directions for Women and Tustin Public Schools Foundation. She also served as board president of the Orange/Long Beach chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and as a board member and audit committee chairman of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a former reviewer for the Government Finance Officers Association and Association of School Business Officials Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting programs.
